Policy on Material Charges 

Materials Charges (Revised 02.2024)

The borrower is responsible for the care and prompt return of all books and materials borrowed from the Library. Parents/Guardians are responsible for materials borrowed by their juvenile children. Family Privileges will be suspended when a member of the household has fees for non-return, lost, or damaged materials. Patrons must be eighteen (18) years old to check out DVDs. 

The library does not charge late fees on items returned in good condition after the due date. A telephone or postal notice shall be given two to three weeks after the due date. Patrons will be charged the replacement cost of the unreturned, lost, or damaged materials.

Replacement cost of materials

The patron is responsible for all materials borrowed on their card. The charge for lost materials is

·         Actual replacement cost, plus processing fees.

     Damage cost of materials

Patrons are not charged for the normal wear and tear of materials. If an item has been damaged due to misuse or neglect, the following charges may be assessed:

Minor damage that can be repaired: $1.00 per damaged part

·         Damaged/torn plastic book cover

·         Damaged/torn paper dust jacket

·         Damaged/torn jacket for DVD, music CD, audiobook

·         Damaged spine labels, or barcode

      Suspension of borrowing privileges for the patron or household

·         One or more items on the account are long overdue.

·         One or more items on the account have lost status.

·         The patron has not paid the replacement cost of the materials unreturned, lost, or damaged.

      Restoring of borrowing privileges for the patron or household

·         All items long overdue are returned.

·         Lost items on the account of the patron or household are returned.

·         Items on the account of the patron or are paid in full.

·         Damaged materials are paid in full.

Charges may be reduced at the discretion of Library staff with the approval of the Library Director.  If a patron issues a check and it is returned, the patron will be charged $25 per returned check.
